Barbara Rush, the supremely poised actress who rose to fame with supporting roles in 1950s films like “Magnificent Obsession” and “The Young Lions,” died on Sunday at her home in Westlake Village, Calif., in Los Angeles County. The death, in a senior care facility, was confirmed by her daughter, Claudia Cowan. If Ms. Rush’s portrayals had one thing in common, it was a gentle, ladylike quality, which she put to use in films of many genres. She was Jane Wyman’s concerned stepdaughter in the 1954 romantic drama “Magnificent Obsession” and Dean Martin’s loyal wartime girlfriend in “The Young Lions” (1958), set during World War II. In 1950s science fiction pictures like “It Came From Outer Space” and “When Worlds Collide,” she was the small-town heroine, the scientist’s daughter, the Earthling most likely to succeed.

I was in the office alone on a Saturday, muddling through, when Paul walked in. Staggered shifts meant we rarely arrived together, and by the end of the night, everyone was too exhausted to notice when we left in the same car. Late-night games meant some shifts didn't end until very early in the morning. That fight confirmed that our relationship was strong enough to survive shift work. Nearly 18 years later, I have no regrets about my office romance.

DETROIT (AP) — A couple of blocks from the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Electrify America is about to open an indoor charging station that lets drivers relax in a lounge while their electric vehicle batteries are being filled up. On Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, Tesla is building a combination drive-in restaurant, movie theater and charging station. Several convenience store chains have set up charging stations outside their businesses and offer food, restrooms and 24-hour service for EV owners. He said he doesn't necessarily think charging stations with more amenities will become a big attraction for most EV owners. Sometimes, businesses near charging stations are closed, and there's no place to go while charging.

In frigid temperatures, it can take a half hour to warm the battery so it's ready to charge, Westlake said. Bansal, who has had her Tesla for only a week, didn't know about preconditioning the car before charging, but she does now. So she told the car she was going to the charging station and it was ready by the time she arrived and plugged in. The car, she said, will tell you where charging stations are and how much range you have left. Burney said she loses roughly 15% to 20% of her battery range in cold weather, but it gets dramatically worse in cold snaps like the one this week.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 16 (Reuters) - U.S. brokerage firm Charles Schwab (SCHW.N) posted a smaller-than-expected drop in quarterly profit on Monday as strength in asset management fees softened the blow from a fall in its net interest revenue. Charles Schwab's shares surged 6.2%, to $54.49, set for their best day in nearly three months, if gains hold. Drops in deposits have drained firms like Charles Schwab of a cheap source of funding, forcing them to either raise new capital or cut costs. Charles Schwab relies primarily on clients' uninvested cash to fund its interest-earning businesses such as purchase of fixed-income assets and lending. Schwab has had to turn to supplementary funding sources to counter this churn. Last month, the Westlake, Texas-based company said it was relying on more expensive funding sources, like borrowing from the Federal Home Loan Bank, to supplement its cash flow. Meanwhile, inflows into the company's funds boosted asset management and administration fees by 12% to $1.17 billion.
